The Birth

From the archives - 28th August 2017, 6:00 PM.

In the early summer mornings of 1990, there slept a couple in their mansion with high hopes for the coming days in life. The lady woke up, it was around quarter to 6, with great efforts she made to put herself along with the very important 9 months old fetus in her womb, out of the bed. Her sixth sense that this was the day but her body didn’t give any signs of birthday. Having this thought she slowly walked towards the washroom carrying the healthy body and rested herself there. Refreshing herself she stood in front of the vanity fixed in the corner of their bedroom.

The man of the house woke up, rubbing his sleepy eyes embraced the dear lady from behind and greeted good morning, with a kiss on her forehead, to both the souls in one body. He covered her with a satin robe to protect her from the externals while they would go out for a morning walk.

The couple sat down on the balcony enjoying the pleasant colorful summer. The husband serves tea for both of them. Sipping the hot ginger tea she said, “Listen I think it’s the day. I strongly feel it’s gonna happen today. Please be prepared.” Listening to this with raised eyebrows and expression of concern  he gets off from the chair. He kneels down beside her while she is still sitting comfortable in the wooden chair. He grabbed her hand and asked, “Baby, are you okay? Are you feeling the pain? Please tell if anything of that sort is there.

Wife with a smile told, “This is my inner feeling. Nothing physical is felt as of now. Don’t worry everything will be fine.” Husband takes a deep breath and makes her wear running shoes. Carefully he took her downstairs to the living room and gave a bottle of water to hold. As he was tying the lace of his shoes, dropping down the bottle she yelled, “Ahh!!! Come here, come fast!!” He got freaked out and rushed towards her and had held her with concern and fear.

They furiously rushed to the hospital. On the stretcher she is laid, yelling out of labor pains yet holding his hand tight enough for him to stay close by. Moving swiftly from one corridor to the other with the lady on the stretcher and man on toes at par with doctors around, they reach the operation theater within a few minutes. She was shifted onto the delivery bed and was primarily covered into the hospital gown. She was given a set of injections to keep the body in control.

The contractions became worse, crying out of pain, sweating terribly she experienced one of the most longest toilsome labor cramps ever. The abdomen, the lower back, the vagina were on stake with intense hurt.

Standing at the corner of theater., he was in tears seeing his loved ones suffering. He became cold and tensed; his legs and hand were shivering. He was bombarded with thoughts of the past few months. The moments of intimate intercourse, the moments of his wife’s confirmation of a new arrival, the moments of unhealthy, the moments of love and happiness in these past 9 months were filmed in his mind.

Meanwhile, the doctors firmly order her to cooperate with them. With one last strong contraction she gave birth to me!! I was drenched with blood and mucus as I came out of my mother’s womb. My first cry gave her the happiness and relief for the doctors as well as to my much awaited parents. That moment not only a child was born but also a mom, a dad moreover a new relation was born. My dad burst into smiles of happy tears and my mom, what to say, she felt the motherhood. Doctors physically detached me from my warm wonderful residence, that is, mom’s womb by cutting the umbilical cord. They cleaned me, rolled me in a towel and handed over me to my dad.

My dad walked towards my mom holding me in their arms,

The glances they possessed at me, the touch of love is experienced,

The feeling of togetherness;

It’s been 20 years now for this incident yet I get to feel all these even today, maybe because I’m still their LITTLE FRAGILE SOUL.

'The Lady with the Lamp' - Relevance in 2020 Pandemic Crisis

" Lo! in that house of misery A lady with a lamp I see               Pass through the glimmering of gloom               And flit from room to room. "  ~ Santa Filomena  , poem written by Henry Wodsworth Longfellow.  On the 200th Birth Anniversary of Florence Nightingale, famously addressed as the "Lady with the Lamp", International Nurses Day is commemorated on 12th May every year. This is a tribute to the entire nursing fraternity in the healthcare sector. In most of the countries, women largely account for the front-line healthcare workers as nurses and midwives. In India, Kerala state is known for producing the highest number of professional nurses for the country and even abroad. By definition,  Nursing   encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people.  (Sou

An Insight on Coronavirus: The Structure & Viral Replication

" Our greatest enemy is not the virus itself. It's fear, rumors and stigma. And our greatest assets are facts, reasons and solidarity. "  ~ Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General  The pandemic COVID-19 is a Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) caused by novel CoronaVirus-2, SARS-CoV-2 , which is transmitted mainly by contact with infectious person or material; and is characterized by symptoms of fever, cough, common cold, shortness of breath and may progress to pneumonia/respiratory failure.
